Proven Hacks for Growing Your Business: Insights from the Trenches

This is where I share the advanced concepts, strategic thinking and real world methods that drive sustainable growth in SaaS, ecommerce and digital business. Everything I publish is based on lived experience and tested systems across performance marketing, data science, product design and customer journeys. I keep the language clear and free from unnecessary jargon, but I do not oversimplify. Real growth is complex, and my aim is to make that complexity accessible without losing what makes it powerful. Whether you are looking to scale faster, make smarter decisions or fix what is underperforming, these insights are built to help. If you need help applying anything or want to explore what is possible for your business, feel free to get in touch.

Multi Tenancy in Rails: The Decisions That Are Expensive to Reverse

Every SaaS makes a handful of decisions in its first month that it will live with for a decade, and most founders make them without noticing. This is a plain language walk through the ones that matter in a Rails product: how you separate one customer's data from another's, where the tenant lives in the code, who a user is when they belong to two companies, what a tenant is versus who pays the bill, and why the isolation model you pick is also your GDPR strategy. Written so a founder can follow the business consequence of each choice, with the honest cost of changing your mind later.

Competitor Price Monitoring in the EU: What Is Actually Legal

Every ecommerce owner wants to know what the competition charges, and every one of them asks the same question first: are we allowed to? A plain language map of the rules that actually apply in the EU, Germany and Austria: why prices are facts and facts belong to nobody, where the database right does and does not reach, what the Ryanair cases really decided, when scraping becomes unfair competition, where GDPR starts, the competition law trap nobody warns you about, and what a crawler has to look like so that I am willing to run it.

Headless and API First Solidus: The Prerequisite for a Mobile App

Headless is the most oversold word in ecommerce, and also the thing you will wish you had when someone asks for an app. What it actually means, when it is worth it and when it is not, the hybrid I build on Solidus so the web shop and any future app share one set of rules, what Solidus gives you on day one, what you still have to design yourself, and why doing it later costs several times what doing it now does. With the Gift Bow demo shop as the running example.

PHP broke the internet again. Why WordPress should have retired in 2015, and what to build instead

On 21 October 2026 the NCSC warned that any version of PHP can be hijacked remotely (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619), giving attackers a direct path to your files and database. WordPress, Joomla, TYPO3 and every PHP site are affected, with official advice to take sites offline. A plain English guide to the real risk and the modern, secure, owned alternative on Ruby on Rails.

Commission Based Pricing Month by Month: The Worked Example

The transparency page shows the prices and the playground lets you model a commission deal. This is the piece in between: one fictional but realistic shop, 1.8 million a year, walked through twelve months of a results based engagement. What is agreed before the start, what the invoice says each month, what the commission is calculated on, how it is measured and who can see it, what happens in a slow quarter, what happens when you want out, what is not in the price, and what the same year would cost on the phased packages, with an agency, or with a hire. A worked example, not a promise, and I say so all the way through.

DACH Payments in Solidus: Kauf auf Rechnung, SEPA, Klarna, EPS and Twint

The build side of selling into Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Which payment methods each market actually expects, roughly what share each one takes, and how every one of them is wired into a Solidus store: payment methods per zone, Stripe for cards and SEPA, Klarna, Unzer or Mollie for pay on invoice, what pay on invoice does to the order state machine, dunning, fraud checks, refunds, SCA, reconciliation with the accountant, and what it costs in conversion when the mix is wrong.

What Is a Smart Website? Pages That Adapt to the Ad That Brought You Here

Most businesses pay for ads that promise one thing and then send everyone to the same page that says another. A smart website closes that gap: one canonical site for search engines and cold visitors, and a variant of each page that continues the ad a visitor clicked, remembered with their consent, tested against real conversions, and edited through AI in the client portal instead of a CMS. Here is what that means, how it works under the hood, what it refuses to do with personal data, and two worked examples.

Migrating from Shopify or Magento to Solidus: The Five Year Total Cost of Ownership

A worked five year cost model for owners who are paying more every month for a shop they do not own. What Shopify and Magento actually cost once apps, agency retainers, payment surcharges and forced upgrades are counted, what a Solidus build plus hosting and maintenance costs against that, and then the part nobody writes down: what a migration really involves, from the catalogue and the customer accounts you cannot move to the redirects, the payment tokens, the cutover and the rollback plan.

Solidus vs Shopify vs Shopware vs Magento vs WooCommerce: Which Platform for a DACH SME

An honest platform comparison for owners of small and medium sized shops in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Shopify, Shopware, Magento, WooCommerce and Solidus compared on what actually decides the outcome: who owns the store, what the bill looks like over five years, whether Kauf auf Rechnung and OSS VAT work without a fight, where customisation stops, and how hard it is to leave. Written for the person signing the invoice, not for their developer.

Server Side Tracking: The Technical Guide to Fixing Your Broken Analytics

A technical deep dive into server side tracking for marketers and developers who are tired of watching their conversion data degrade. Starts with an accessible explanation of why browser based tracking is failing, then gets properly technical with architecture diagrams, GTM Server Side Container configuration, Meta Conversions API implementation, Google Enhanced Conversions setup, deduplication logic to avoid double counting, consent mode integration, first party data enrichment strategies, infrastructure hosting options, debugging techniques, and honest cost analysis. Written for people who actually need to implement this, not just read about it.

Zero Click Content: How to Win When Nobody Visits Your Website

Why the best content strategy in 2026 might be giving away everything on platform and expecting nothing in return. Turning Solidus into a full stack car dealership and rental platform

How a Ruby on Rails and Solidus shop becomes a dealership platform: one unit stock for used cars, branches as stock locations, a rental calendar the database enforces, daily rental pricing, deposits as card holds and the Irish rules that shape it, with an invented dealership in Cork and Limerick.

Beyond SEO: winning visibility in the age of AEO and GEO

Search engines now answer before they link, and with nearly six in ten EU searches ending without a click, the page quoted in the answer is the one that is seen. How a question becomes an AI answer with citations, the three things that decide whether you are in it, and what I do on the sites I build.

Accessibility law for online businesses in Ireland: what the Accessibility Act, the Equal Status Acts and WCAG 2.1 AA ask of a shop, a SaaS product and a corporate site

The European Accessibility Act has applied in Ireland since June 2025 through S.I. 636 of 2023, and it names online shops. The Equal Status Acts have asked for reasonable accommodation since 2000. Both come down to WCAG 2.1 AA. What that means in practice, with a Cork checkout audit worked through.
